There are many different types of DVD players available today. You can have a standard DVD player, a blu-ray DVD player, a DVD player installed in your vehicle, you can buy portable DVD players to take with you when you travel, and you can even buy multi-region DVD players so that you can watch DVDs produced in different countries that are created in different formats.

One of the best ways to find the best DVD player for your money is to look at DVD player reviews. These compare different players feature by feature so that you can get the best one for the price.

Judging DVD Player Reviews

DVD player reviews that you find in electronics and video equipment magazines as well as consumer magazines are probably going to be the most accurate. A common tactic online these days is for a site that wants to sell products to review them and give the most expensive ones the best reviews in hopes of making the highest profit. A website that has no stake in whether or not you buy a product is also bound to give a more unbiased review.

When you find a good source of unbiased reviews, then it's easy to compare various players to each other as well as other models from that manufacturer. You can choose players that offer things like the ability to play blu-ray DVDS, streaming Netflix movies from the Internet, streaming YouTube videos from the Internet, DVD burning and sometimes even DVR, or digital video recording, capabilities. If money is your biggest concern, then purchase the one with the basic features you use the most. Purchasing the most expensive one in the hopes of getting the best quality isn't always the best idea because the player could be obsolete in only a few years.

Region Free DVD Players

Region free DVD players are more expensive than other players. Most people won't need this type of player because they simply won't ever have the need to play a DVD from another country. But for people who enjoy foreign films, especially those that can't be purchased in their own country's format because the film wasn't released there, region free DVD players allow them to enjoy more entertainment options.

Different countries use different formats. A disc produced in Europe or the UK won't play on a US player, for instance, and vice versa. But with a region free DVD player, a DVD created anywhere in the world should play without a problem.

GPS navigation systems come in two general varieties. You can purchase handheld GPS systems or a vehicle with a built-in system. Today’s GPS systems do more than just offers spoken directions. They can be used for things like geocaching, vehicle tracking, geo-fencing, Internet access and wireless communications, traffic monitoring and more.

Many portable, electronic devices today have built-in GPS systems intended to expand their functionality. Cell phones, for instance, often have applications that allow you to use them as GPS systems. These won’t have the same amount of features as a dedicated GPS system but are often enough for the casual user.

Benefits of a Handheld GPS

A GPS comparison makes the benefits of a handheld unit clear. These portable GPS systems offer the best of both worlds because they can be carried with you and they can generally be mounted in a vehicle for road trips. Vehicles that have built-in systems are generally much more limited in their features and obviously can’t be taken with you.

Handheld GPS units are used today in a hobby that’s known as geocaching. Much like yesterday’s scavenger hunts, geocaching is the modern twist on treasure hunting. A portable GPS unit is required to play the game. A handheld GPS unit is also handy if you walk in a city or anywhere that you travel without a vehicle. You get the same quality directions and navigational help without the need for a car.

GPS Navigation System Add-Ons

Since GPS stands for Global Positioning System and uses satellites to get coordinate information, GPS units can be used around the world. Whether or not the GPS can actually give you directions as far as roads and the actual landscape depends on the maps available. You can download free and purchased maps from a variety of places including the GPS manufacturer. For instance, if you’re in the United States when you purchase a GPS Europe maps would be necessary to use it overseas.

A GPS antenna is another add-on that you might consider if you have trouble getting map and direction information from your GPS system. An antenna can help your receiver download the information more quickly in certain circumstances.

Canon digital cameras are known for quality, since Canon has been a major name in traditional cameras for so many years. The company continues to make cameras that use traditional film, as well as inexpensive digital cameras and large, professional cameras with huge lenses. Old Canon cameras that appeared when digital photography was just becoming available to regular consumers often still work, though the resolution isn't nearly as high as with today's cameras, and the pictures aren't quite as crisp.

Modern Canon digital cameras are miles away from their earliest models, with many professionals opting for digital photography now. When the medium was new, the quality difference between digital and film was obvious, but with high-quality cameras like the high-end Canon Powershot or the Canon EOS, the picture quality can be as good as or better than with film.

Canon Powershot Cameras

The Canon Powershot camera comes in a variety of price ranges and quality levels. The most basic ones are small Canon digital cameras meant for general and casual use. These are compact and can be kept in a small case or can be easily slipped into a pocket or purse. The most expensive Powershot is a more professional quality camera with a large lens, meant to take the highest quality photos possible.

The Canon EOS, like some of the more advanced Powershots, is an SLR camera, or a Single Lens Reflex camera that does offer professional-quality photos. This is the first camera of choice for professionals rather than a camera that's known as a point-and-shoot camera designed for general consumers.

Canon Camera Reviews

Canon camera reviews online are one of the best ways to determine which canon digital cameras offer the features you're looking for. The reviews let you compare different camera models like the Powershot and the EOS to see which is right for you as far as price, resolution, extra features and lenses.

The reviews can also help you decide between Canon digital cameras and other brands, based on the features they offer and the difference in price ranges.

I’m a firm believer in the power of choice. Choice in cars, choice in cable providers, choice in which movies I watch, and choice in how I live my life. Freedom of choice is in our constitution and charter of rights. I’m also a firm believer in keeping things simple, and there is such a thing as too much choice. Take digital cameras for instance. As of today, Amazon has 3,859 digital cameras (and accessories) listed ranging in price from $24,995.00 all the way down to $40.99. That’s not choice, that’s a nightmare!

Well, were do we go from here? I did promise a SIMPLE guide to digital camera buying, and I meant it. Let’s apply the 90% rule from one of my favorite old science fiction writers Theodore Sturgeon. Theo said (and I loosely quote): “90% of everything is crap”. With that in mind, let’s eliminate all the crap. Let’s only look at the top cameras from whatever category / budget were interested in. In other words, as your reading any camera reviews, don’t bother with a camera if it doesn’t receive at least a 4 or a 5 star review.

Next, draw up a short list of the most important features for you. Here’s a few to choose from :

megapixels (at least 5 or 6)

image sensor size (bigger is better . . . not megapixels, that’s different . . . if the salesperson
can’t answer this, find another salesperson)

zoom lens (anything more than 12x or 70mm and you’ll probably need a SLR)

LCD screen (at least 2.5 inches and 230,000 pixels)

image stabilization (great for shaking hands and slow ISO settings)

face detection / auto focus ( not essential, but could save a few bad pictures)

battery performance (most cameras give a rating based on number of pictures you can
take with one set of batteries)

flash recharge time (slow recharge times can result in missed pictures)

size (choose from ultra compact, compact, or extra case need just for lenses)

SLR or point and shoot ( pros vs amateurs)

ISO settings (if your into manual tweaking)

built in camera editing (things like removing red eye)

macro lens function ( for photographers that like to take pictures of really really tiny things)

memory cards (some take CF, some take SD, some take both . . . what you already
     own may help you decide)

Once you have your short list of features, it’s time to try a few cameras out. I like to visit the camera store, and take lots of pictures. Go during the off hours, and find a helpful salesperson. Ask question, take pictures, ask more questions. Wash rinse repeat with a couple of cameras, and even a couple of salespersons if necessary. Pretty soon, you’ll know what you like.

Car DVD players are the latest craze in car audio and car entertainment products. In car entertainment has changed over the past 10 years and one area that has increased the most is the development of Car DVD Players. These are now one of the most popular devices for the modified car enthusiast many reasons, mainly the fact that 1,000's of tracks can be added to one DVD disc completely removing the need for your whole album collection to be stored in your motor.

The Other more desirable feature of the modern Car DVD players is the ability to play DVD movies on the screen (and any other screens connected into the system). Most new DVD Stereos are fitted with either a 3" small screen on the front (single Din), a retractable 7" flip out screen (single Din) or a Double Din 7" screen constantly on show. Choosing the best DVD stereo for you would depend on the size of the Din Space available in the car and possibly whether a fascia adapter needed to install (and whether you intend to show off?).

The pros and cons of having a single din 3" screen DVD player.

The Main advantage of having a small screen Car DVD player is that the majority of vehicles are equipped with single Din fitments. Basically the factory fitted radio is already 1 Din in size. The unit will fit snug into the console of your vehicle and with a fascia (may not be needed) the install will look smooth and professional. The only major negative is that the screen is difficult to see if you intend to view movies on it.

The pros and cons of the 7" flip screen Car DVD Player.

The Flip out screen option is usually the most popular type of Aftermarket DVD stereo. With this you get the best of both worlds. The Screen is large and retractable which will fold back within the body of the stereo unit. These are also 1 Din in size so will be compatible the majority of vehicle fitments. However the only negative with these units is that when down, the screen extends from the unit and intrudes slightly from the console (meaning you lose the sleek install)

The Pros and cons of the Double Din Car DVD Player.

In my opinion the Double Din DVD stereos are the most attractive headunits on the market today. They provide an excellent screen size to watch all DVD movies and also sit flush to the console, making the install look much more professional. Often these units also have greater processing power and more advanced anti-skip features as there is more space available within the unit for the designers to work with. One of the only down sides is that the screen is always visible and can sometimes be over bearing and can potentially increase the chances of theft.

If you are looking for the most affordable digital camera, does that mean you are looking for the cheapest camera you can find? I tend to think not. If you wanted cheap, you would have said cheap. Affordable suggests, you have some kind of budget in mind. I would assume that it's probably a small budget, but a budget none the less. For around $150 you can get a pretty respectable digital camera. But that may be a bit high, so lets start at $150 and work our way down. You may be surprised at what we find.

In the $100 to $150 range, were able to find some very good cameras with a smidgen of the latest technology thrown in. Image stabilization and face recognition are great features to have for this price. The image quality here will be far better than anything your cell phone camera can do, and a vast improvement over disposable cameras. The Canon PowerShot A570IS would be my first choice, as well as many others judging by it's inclusion on the best seller list on some of the big online camera retailers. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ7K and several of the Kodak EasyShare models can be found in this category as well.

The $50 to $100 range is getting quite affordable for anyone, but there are sacrifices to be made in image quality and features. The Kodak EasyShare C613 still has a respectable 6.2MP and 3x zoom. A perennial best seller, and backed by one of the oldest camera manufacturers in the business. The Nikon Coolpix L11, and Canon Powershot A460 are worthy contenders to look at here as well.

Buying a decent new digital camera (that's not a toy) for under $50 is pretty much impossible these days. Prices have dropped quite a bit, but not that low. The good news, is that if your willing to look into used cameras you can find plenty of great deals. The usual auction sites will have lots, but some of the bigger online retailers carry used cameras as well. Just make sure their return policy is good, before buying anything used.

The most affordable digital camera, is of course the one you already own. Pretty much the only cost associated with that one is batteries. Since so few people develop a lot of pictures these days, even developing costs are hardly worth mentioning. Don't ignore any used and discontinued cameras you may find. With so many new cameras coming out every day, there are plenty of good deals to be found as people sell of their old ones.

GPS maps are an important part of GPS systems. It's the maps that allow you to find your way. While the GPS actually receives information from satellites circling the earth based on longitude and latitude, the maps allow that information to be put to practical use.

Without GPS map data, GPS systems would only offer coordinates and would be fairly useless for things like driving directions which they're most often used for today. Every GPS system has its own built-in navigation GPS maps and mapping systems that allow it to offer driving directions and directions to certain points of interest that may be programmed into their specific systems. You can also obtain maps from other sources for a variety of different reasons.

Freeware GPS Maps

There are a variety of places online where you can download freeware GPS maps. These maps are available to you at no charge and often have special features like easily accessed directions to things like landmarks, restaurants, stores and points of interest in a given area. These free maps for GPS systems are usually sponsored by the GPS companies or other organizations. Basic maps and maps that show general points of interest like stores and restaurants are almost always free.

Maps that you can purchase include things like NavTech GPS maps, Navigon GPS Maps and PPC GPS maps. These are advanced maps and services that offer features beyond basic directions. People who travel frequently or that need to use the GPS systems for more advanced applications may opt to purchase these types of maps.

Built-In GPS Maps

For most users, the built-in GPS software like Garmin GPS map software or Magellan GPS map software will be enough. These GPS maps offer easy access to directions to things like airports, train stations, bus terminals and stores and shops.

They also offer turn-by-turn, spoken directions to any destination found on the maps. Most people won't need anything beyond these basic maps systems but may opt to purchase different maps that focus on different areas like amusement parks, museums or other specific locations.

A refurbished GPS system can save you a great deal of money over purchasing a new one. But you can also end up with a piece of equipment that doesn't work properly or that ends up wearing out prematurely. There is a difference between used and refurbished that you should be aware of before you purchase.

Used means the item has been used by a previous owner. But a refurbished item has also been refurbished to make it higher quality again. A refurbished GPS system has been inspected and repaired and brought as close to factory-new quality as possible.

Buying Refurbished GPS Systems

If you want to purchase a 4.3 inch refurbished GPS system, bear in mind that you're going to pay pretty close to the new price for the item. In fact, a cheap refurbished GPS probably required more repair to bring it to a quality that would allow it to be sold. That can be a sign that it's going to wear out quicker or possibly develop problems with very little use.

Compare the price of the refurbished GPS to the same make and model in both new and used condition. The refurbished cost should be closer to the new cost than it is the cost of used models that haven't been inspected and repaired. Also compare the price to other refurbished GPS systems that are the exact same model. The prices should be similar, so one that's much cheaper than the rest is a warning flag that that piece of equipment has probably been used much harder than it should have been.

Why Buy a Refurbished GPS

Many people who opt to buy a refurbished GPS system do so because they want a high-end system without the high cost. While some compact systems can cost between $100 and $200 and even less when on sale, many people want a more expensive systems with more features.

A fully-loaded Garmin refurbished GPS, for instance, might not cost that much more than a cheap model that offers only the basics. By paying just a little bit more, you can get a refurbished model that offers all of the best GPS features available like traffic monitoring and vehicle tracking instead of one that just offers spoken directions.
