Digital Camera Batteries

Digital camera batteries represent quite a large expense when you use a digital camera. Compact digital cameras typically take regular alkaline batteries while SLR cameras which require much more power can take those as well as Li-on rechargeable battery packs.

The type of battery the camera that you want to purchase will require will have a lot to do with how much money you spend on your photography over time. Cameras that use alkaline batteries typically drain them very quickly. Cameras that use rechargeable digital camera batteries will cost more initially but without the requirement of a fresh supply of batteries at all times. Rechargeable batteries often don't offer quite as much power as fresh alkaline batteries, however, and may require that the camera be recharged more often than a user might like.

Choosing Digital Camera Batteries

If you're going to use a camera that requires alkaline batteries, your choice of batteries will make a big difference in how long your camera will work between battery changes. Energizer digital camera batteries are a favorite of most people because of their long-lasting features. Cheap batteries like those you might find at a dollar store or discount store that have generic names are probably not going to last very long in a digital camera.

The age of the battery can make a difference in its effectiveness. The quality of the battery, of course, will make a difference, too. That's why brand names like Energizer or Duracell are good choices. Rechargeable alkaline batteries are also an option for compact cameras. These batteries cost more initially but you can recharge them at home and used them multiple times.

Preserve Your Digital Camera Batteries

If you're purchasing a camera that requires alkaline batteries, buying a model that has an automatic shutoff will save your battery life. Bear in mind that these models aren't good if you need to have your camera at the ready for an extended period of time because it will turn off repeatedly and take time to warm up when you're ready to take a photo.

If your batteries go dead, don't worry that you've lost pictures. A digital camera without batteries preserves the pictures in its memory, and photos that you have on a memory card within the camera will be saved, as well.
